Right-sized ranch
Carmel couple enjoy their maintenance-free home with space for guests and entertaining

Lisa and Dale Hyde's Bridgewater Pointe home isn't the biggest one in their Carmel neighborhood.
That honor is reserved for the palatial homes in other parts of the posh Bridgewater Club community. Nor is it the fanciest. (Ditto on the nearby big homes.) But the simple ranch-style setting is just right for the Hydes, empty nesters who share it with Kipper and Stoney, their two Pembroke Welsh corgis.
Lisa Hyde, an interior designer and personal shopper, has created a comfortable setting that combines soft tones with dramatic splashes of color.
The floor plan flows from one area to another, and there's very little space that goes unused. The main floor encompasses the master bedroom suite, kitchen, great room and guest suite.
The lower level is what Lisa refers to as Dale's "man cave," a place for comfortable furniture, a big-screen television and a display of Dale's University of Georgia Bulldogs paraphernalia.
"We love this community," says Lisa, whose voice still carries an Atlanta flavor. "It's the nicest community I've ever lived in."
The Hydes moved to Bridgewater four years ago. They were living in a bigger home in Fishers when they decided they wanted to move into something smaller and closer to the airport. (Dale works for Federal Express.)
They put their Fishers home on the market and were happily surprised when it sold in 10 days. "Then we were scampering, trying to find a place to live," Lisa recalls.
The couple knew what they liked. They liked golf course 
communities, and they wanted something maintenance-free. They knew they wanted a ranch-style home with a lower level to provide room for entertaining and hosting Dale's adult sons and their families.
When they found the Estridge custom home, it was still in the framing stage, allowing them to individualize the design and color selections.
Lisa did most of the decorating, juxtaposing elegant accessories and unique antique pieces with fun statements, like the dog plaque that reads, "What part of grrr did you miss?"
The result is a place where the couple can host everything from a formal dinner to a casual meal on the patio with the dogs hoping for a few scraps.
"I don't like things to be too serious," Lisa says. "I like a little whimsy."
